Babcock University Teaching Hospital (BUTH) once again strengthened the University’s drive to restore faith in the Nigerian health sector with a successful total knee re-placement surgery. The surgery which took three hours, was in conjunction with a team of surgeons including a UK-based Nigerian surgeon and anesthesiologists. According to the lead surgeon of the BUTH Orthopedic department, Dr Kelechukwu Onuoha, this is the first of a two-phase surgery for the patient. The second would be carried out after a two to three-month rehabilitation. Meanwhile, the patient is stable and able to walk straight. He said though BUTH had previous-ly carried out a simi-lar procedure, this case was the first of its kind in terms of complexity. He credits the surgical success to God, profes-sional competence and availability of equipment.
