SIWES ORIENTATION

SIWES ORIENTATION

Rounding up the School activities on a high note, in preparation for the 6 months Siwes program for some departments in the University, the Siwes Ogun state chapter, organized an orientation program for the students going for the Industrial Training Exercise.

Giving the opening remarks, the Senior Vice-President (Academics), Professor Philemon Amanze, gave a brief introduction about Siwes which was created to build a skill program to empower students for the work to come. Having started the work-study program in Babcock which is for all students and was adopted in 1999; it is a spiritual and financial program instilling virtue, and it is for students to learn skills as they study. Linking the work-study program and Siwes, which is to bridge the existing gap between work and study to apply technical skills, it provides students to apply standard skills in their studies and prepares students for work situations.

Representing the Director of Academic Planning, the Deputy Director Dr. Obinna Okoro gave the students a pep talk and some pointers on how to abide by work ethics and stay professional in their workplace, he advised them to be patient with their work as they are working with people who are experienced than they are and also to be humble regardless of their background. He, therefore, urged them to work in silence and let the results speak for them as working hard is different from showing off.

The ITF team led by the Ogun state Area Manager, Mrs. Coker Funmi gave a proper overview of what Siwes is all about which is to have hands-on experience and skills to what is being taught in schools. The Industrial Training is to be done in an organization that is relatable to the course they are offering in the University as Exposure and Experience are necessary.
