ADVANCED SEMINAR IN LAW (PRO BONO SERVICE)

The school of law and Security studies Babcock university, held a Pro bono service on the 12th of April and it was facilitated by the 2020/2021 Phd set from the School of Law. The Pro Bono service was conducted at the Borstal Institution (reformation homes for Juvenile and young offenders) in Abeokuta.

The Public Relations Officer, DSC Raji Babatunde Yusuff who spoke in details about who exactly the people in the correction centre are, he stated that not just those who are criminally minded are at the centre, but those who were also brought in by their parent due to some strange characters they are exhibiting, those that their offspring have gone beyond correction. Also in his address he explained that the offenders are not just criminally minded but drug abusers are also present

The PRO stated the correctional home educate them and re orientate them, but most especially know the cause root of their problem and know how to develop their personality to be able to align with the society while they are out of the centre.

Education doesn’t stop simply because they are restrained from the outside world, as they have teachers and classrooms who come to teach them as they also participate in WAEC and JAMB examinations. To those who do not wish to study, would be enrolled in the vocational centre within the Correctional institute to keep them busy while inside or whenever they are outside the facility. There is the Barbing salon, tailoring unit, ICT centre and furniture making for them to learn from.
