The Ilishan Development Association in Conjunction with the Department of Agriculture and Industrial Technology Babcock University organized three-day training on the cultivation of Mushroom for Ilishan- Remo indigenes as part of Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

The training was facilitated by the Dean of School of Science and Technology, Professor Cyril Nwagburuka.

The training focused on the importance of Mushroom to health, basic requirements, protocols for setting a mushroom farm and benefits it has for the society.

Speaking more on the importance of mushroom, Professor Nwangburuka also said, apart from the health benefits, it serves as a source of income that people can capitalize on especially when done on the large scale.

He said the cultivation of mushrooms does not require a rigorous technical knowhow as it can be done by anybody.

On the requirement for mushroom cultivation, he said an environment that is cool and moist makes the mushroom is preferable as direct sunlight is not necessary being that mushroom is fungi and not a plant.

He added that a good pasteurization unit is required as well as tools and accessories such as shovel, baskets, water sprayer, wheel barrow, among others.
