BABCOCK HOSTS CHARTER FOR THE ALPHA BETA GAMMA HONOURS SOCIETY

The University’s School of Nursing Sciences has formally hosted its chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honour Society of Nursing.

By the charter of the Alpha Beta Gamma Honours Society with 73 pioneer members, Babcock becomes the first private University in Nigeria to have its own chapter.

It also joins 560 other chapters of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honour Society of Nursing, the second-largest global nursing organization with over 135,000 active members in 100 countries.

“You truly deserve our congratulations,” said world President of the Sigma Theta Tau Society, Prof. Richard Ricciardi.

”Your induction signifies a new beginning as you join our community of top-notch leaders. We pledge to support you throughout your Nursing career.”

In his counsel and congratulatory message to the inductees, Babcock President/Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ademola S. Tayo asked them to take their pledge serious.

“I hope you will take this charter and induction with all the seriousness it deserves because Nursing is selflessness, love and care.”

He equally implored them to build their future on integrity as they impact their various communities in the future.

Associate Dean and Head of Mental Health & Psychiatric Nursing, Prof Joseph Aina, charged the inductees to uphold the values of the Sigma Theta Tau Honours Society.

“When you take your oath to become a part of this Society, you are pledging to uphold the three principles of love, courage and honour for which it stands,” he said.

The Dean, School of Nursing, Prof. Christianah Sowunmi, expressed her appreciation for the administrative support as she received the symbol of the Society and passed it to Prof Tayo.

For the President of the Alpha Beta Gamma Society, Dr. Clara Lawal, the significance of the day went beyond the induction and goodwill messages from other institutional Directors of Nursing.

“Today marks a significant moment for us and reflects our drive for scholarship, improvement of healthcare and outstanding performance,” she said. “Membership is by invitation to people with high academic standards.”
