Department of Education
The Department has been operating within the School of Education and Humanities to train competent and dedicated student teachers in the spirit of the national goals and objectives regarding the human resource needs of the nation. The Department in conjunction with other Departments in the School of Education and Humanities and other cognate Departments in the University has been involved in the conduct, promotion and dissemination of research that are relevant to the development of education and the nation in general. Through organization of summer classes, seminars, workshops and conferences, the Department has engaged in projecting the image of the University nationally and internationally.
All the programmes mounted in the Department are aimed at training and producing
professionally competent teachers for the secondary schools and other educational institutions as well as making them trainable for administrative responsibilities within and outside the school system.
The Department provides all-round education in the following areas:
- processes of teaching and learning
- understanding the child
- understanding the origin and nature of society and the place of the human element in it
- understanding the origin, nature and dynamics of knowledge
- Education of learning outcomes.
The cognate Departments assist the Department in teaching specialized courses like English, Economics and Business courses. The Department equally assists other Departments in the school and in other cognate Departments in the University to teach the General Education Studies (GEDS) courses.

Providing academically sound and professionally relevant programmes and training for teachers/ Teacher Educators/ Guidance Counselors/ Educational Managers & Planners/ Business Educators/ Office Technology Managers who are grounded in the modern techniques of the 21st century educational processes who have the fear of God accompanied with integrity.
PHILOSOPHY OF THE DEPARTMENT
Realizing the pivotal role of teacher education in the overall development of the individuals, nations and humanity in general, the Department of Education is conceived as an academic unit devoted to the pursuit of excellence in research, teaching, learning and community service for the production of sound, committed and dynamics teachers and teacher educators/guidance counselors who can effectively respond to the challenges of Education in their immediate community, nation and the world at large.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT
The aim of the Department of Education is the production of teachers, teacher educators and guidance counselors who can effectively respond to the teaching, training and research challenges of the 21st century educational system.
To achieve this goal, the specific objectives of the Department are;
1. Equipping the students with appropriate pedagogical skills and competencies needed for handling various school subjects with Christ mind as one to give an account to the Master Teacher who is Jesus Christ.
2. Collaborating with cognate departments for the acquisition of relevant skills, knowledge and other forms of competencies needed for the production of quality teachers for the Nigerian educational system to produce soldiers for Christ.
3. Supporting governmental and non – governmental agencies in providing capacity building and research services for the enhancement of educational quality in Nigeria.

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Education was established as Department of Educational Foundation in theSchool of Education and Humanities in 2012. The pioneer head was Professor Ruth A. Aderanti. In 2013.In 2015, in line with the advice of the NUC that the Department should be program-based, the name of the Department was changed to Department of Education. The programme offers are Business Education, Economics Education, Educational Administration & Planning English Education, and Guidance and Counselling.

Admission Requirements
Applicants for regular admission as freshmen (100-Level) must submit three satisfactory letters of recommendations to the Admissions Office, and satisfy the following, with originals of documents available for verification at the time of enrolment:
Regular Admission:
West African Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSC); General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level (O’L) or equivalent, National Examinations Council (NECO), National Business & Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), at one or two sittings.
a. A minimum of Credit level (C6) pass in at least 5 subjects, including English Language and
Mathematics. Pass in Mathematics is not required for English Education and Educational Planning and Administration.
Acceptable passes in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).
b. Acceptable entry requirements for major area of study.
c. In addition, candidates must have acceptable passes in the Babcock University Post Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examinations (UTME) and/or placement tests administered by the university.
Provisional Admission
All admissions offered by the University are provisional until the credentials of the candidate have been verified and certified by the Registrar. Applicants awaiting the results of the Senior Secondary School Examinations (SSCE) or National Examinations Council (NECO) are eligible to apply, but must provide authenticated results before Matriculation. If the results are not favourable, the admission will be withdrawn automatically. Authenticated results must satisfy the requirements for a chosen degree programme before consideration for regular admission and matriculation.
Admission into Direct Entry 200 level Degree Programmes
Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications:
i. Passes in GCE Advanced Level in two (2) relevant principal subjects (minimum of eight points) with GCE ‘O’ Level or Senior Secondary Certificate (SSCE) or approved equivalent credit passes in 3 other subjects at not more than 2 sittings.
ii. Passes in GCE Advanced Level or professional qualification in three relevant principal subjects with GCE ‘O’ Level or Senior Secondary Certificate or approved equivalent credit passes in 2 other subjects at not more than 2 sittings.
iii. Passes in NCE subjects / professional qualifications with GCE ‘O’ Level / SSCE Credits or Merits at Teachers Grade II or equivalent in 3 other subjects
iv. Holders of NCE certificates / professional qualifications with GCE ‘O’ Level / SSCE Credits or Merits at Teachers Grade II or equivalent in 3 other subjects.
v. Merit passes at O. N. D in Science / Vocational and Commercial subjects.
vi. Merit pass in Diploma in relevant programmes and 3 other subjects in GCE Ordinary level or SSCE or Merits at Teachers’ Grade II.
