B.Sc Information Technology

AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE DEGREE PROGRAMME
The aim of the programmes is to equip its students with the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfil organizational needs of computer-based information systems, grow into leadership positions, and pursue research or graduate studies in the field, upon graduation. Graduates will be able to select, create, apply, integrate, administer and maintain computing technologies in organizations and within the larger society requiring collaboration.
The specific objectives of the programme are to:
a. Provide students with a broad and balanced foundation of Information Technology knowledge and practical skills
b. Develop in students the ability to apply knowledge and skills to solve potential problems of Information Technology
c. Equip students with the capacity for professional practice in Computing and Information Technology
d. Develop in students a range of transferrable skills of information technology to all aspects of human endeavours
e. Develop candidates for self-employment and job placement in government or in any industry
f. Create in students appreciation of the importance of information technology in industrial, political, economic, legal, natural, technological and social contexts for a better world
g. Develop in students the urge for academic and professional pursuit in information technology and related disciplines.


COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

Students will be equipped with the competencies and skills to:
i. Create and/or manage functional Information Technology resources of an individual or organization
ii. Function as a user advocate in helping users and organizations employ appropriate computer-based information systems to achieve their objectives
iii. Anticipate the changing direction of information technology, and evaluate and communicate the likely utility of new technologies to individuals and organizations
iv. Use current techniques and tools necessary for computing practice
v. Function competently in teamwork and leadership as IT solution provider, particularly in Africa and the world at large.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Student graduation requirements are as follows:
i) Basic entry requirements (‘O’ level, UTME, ‘A’ level or others)
ii) Minimum number of Earned Credit Points for graduation: 159/162 Credit Points
iii) Minimum Number of years for graduation: 4 years
iv) Minimum residency requirement in years: 3 years
v) Minimum CGPA for graduation: 2.50
vi) Completion of Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).
